Famous Armenians

Because of its dramatic history today Armenians are in all over the world. We were migrating seeking for better life, building better future but never forgetting about our mother land. Living in all corners of the planet Armenians tried to be integrated in the societies they were in and to contribute in the welfare of those countries. Below we bring only a few of them and we are sure these names are most probably well known for you.

  • Charles Aznavour

Beloved French chanson singer Charles Aznavour wrote more than 800 songs, recorded more than 1,000 of them in French, English, German and Spanish and sold over 100 million records in all. Throughout his life Aznavour sang for many presidents, popes and royalty, he was always happy to contribute in humanitarian events. Aznavour was the ambassador of Armenia in Switzerland from 2009 and the Ambassador of Goodwill and Permanent Delegate of Armenia to UNESCO.

  • Ross Bagdasarian

Rostom Sipan "Ross" Bagdasarian, also known as David Seville, was an American musician, singer-songwriter, record producer and voice actor. He created Alvin and the Chipmuknks and was the founder of Bagdasaryan Productions.

Eric Bogosian is an American playwright, actor, monologist, novelist and historian.

  • Cher (Cherylin Sarkissian)

Cherlylin Sarkissian is an American actress and singer. She is commonly addressed by media as Goddess of pop music.

  • Atom Egoyan

Atom Egoyan is a Canadian producer, writer and film director of Armenian origin. He won three prizes in Cannes Festival. One of his most famous works is the movie “Ararat”.

  • Arshile Gorky

Arshile was an Armenian-American painter, his life had a seminal influence on Abstract Expressionism. Gorky has been recognized as one of the most powerful American painters of the 20th century. He had a lot of masterpieces telling about his loss and sufferings experienced in the Armenian Genocide.

 

  • Galuste Goulbenkian

Galuste Goulbenkian was a famous British with Armenian origin. He played a vital role in making the Middle East petroleum reserves available for Western countries and he was the first person who could exploit Iraqi oil.

  • Victor Hambartsumian

Victor Hambartsumian was a Soviet Armenian scientist, who founded the theoretical astrophysics. Hambartsumian founded the Byurakan Observatory in 1946.

  • Aram Khachatourian

Aram Khachatourian was a Soviet Armenian composer and conductor. He is considered to be not only one of the Armenian most famous compositors, but also in Soviet Union.

  • David Nalbandian

David Nalbandian is an Argentine retired professional tennis player with Armenian origin. Throughout his career he could reach to the World’s N3 ranking.

  • William Saroyan

William Saroyan is an American writer, novelist who wrote mainly about Armenian immigrant life. He was very popular and famous in the US.

  • System of a Down

System of a Down is an American-Armenian hard rock band, who was formed in California in 1994. Through their songs SOAD tells the World the story of Armenian Genocide.

  • Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashyan is one of the most famous American television personalities.

  • Andre Agassi

Agassi is the former tennis player representing US who reached N1 ranking throughout his career.
