Tourism in Armenia

Tourism in Armenia is currently on its rise.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, it has become much easier to visit Armenia and, eventually, a new infrastructure emerged introducing international flights and hotels chains to the country, thus initiating a massive rise of foreign visits to Armenia and enabling the country to realize its huge touristic potential. Today, tourism is considered one of the priority segments for the Armenian government and the number of tourists increases each year. From expeditions to ancient monasteries and gastronomic tours to the rides on the longest ropeway and funny midnight adventures on the zip line - Armenia has a lot to offer its visitors.

The safety in Armenia is a massive competitive advantage among many other destinations, which stimulates active tourism development in the country. One can feel the safe environment by just walking down the streets of Yerevan at any time of the day or just traveling around the country.

In 2017, 1.4 million travelers visited Armenia, recording a 24% increase of tourists arrivals compared with 2016. In addition to the ongoing interest growth towards Armenia, several other events boosted the active touristic flow into the country. In 2018, Armenia hosted the Francophonie Summit, which was the biggest international event in the history of modern Armenia. Also the capital Yerevan marked its 2800th anniversary which was accompanied with extraordinary celebration events.

The growth was also stimulated by the fact that during recent revolution in the country, Armenia was on the headlines of all the international news agencies, making the country one of the most attractive destinations for the upcoming seasons.
