Armenia - the Hidden Treasure for Adventure Travelers

If you are looking for the perfect destination to spend quality time by actively resting, Armenia is your go-to country. It is the land of nature and mountains. It is the place where you see beautiful forests and where you go hiking. Here are some of the best options to plan your adventurous trip in Armenia.

Hiking

For such a small country, Armenia can offer you a huge array of diverse nature in each of its regions and the hiking destinations in this country are really endless: you can go hike a mountain, a lake, a monastery and so many more places.

If you are up for a hike to a mountain, go to Mount Ara. Located towards the middle of the Aragatsotn and Kotayk provinces’ border, the elevation is about 2,614 m (according Wikipedia) Other sources mention 2,576 m. The cool part is that for each season you can enjoy different activities and different views from the mountain.

Hanging in Syunik area? You are in luck then! Many hiking trails have been built around the area of Tatev Monastery, one of them being the lead to the gorge of Devil’s Bridge. This bridge is a natural wonder of Armenia with Vorotan river underneath. While you are there, be sure to also experience the world’s longest ropeway.

Rock Climbing

Though rock-climbing culture is new to Armenia, its untapped natural wonders are not new formations at all. The hexagonal basalt columns are staples in Armenia and each one slowly gets discovered as a new rock climbing destination for enthusiasts. A number of climbing destinations are located in the country, including Noravank Canyon and Hell’s Canyon in Vayots Dzor and the Symphony of Stones in Garni. All three are conveniently only 1-1.5 hours away from Yerevan, so if you don’t feel like staying overnight, you can take day trips to these destinations.

Ziplining

As adventure tourism is taking a big turn in Armenia, the variety of activities are adding up to the list!
If you are in Tavush region and need a touch of adrenaline, visit Yell Extreme Park. Located in the village of Yenokavan, in Apaga Resort, only about a 1.5 hour drive from Yerevan and 2.5 hour drive from Georgia, the park offers different activities such as ziplining, along with rock climbing, paragliding, and off-roading. There are five ziplines in the park, with about 200-300 m above the ground and 1.5 hour for the average duration of the trip.

Another zipline to add to the list is Yerevan Zipline Airlines. Located in the capital, the zipline is the longest in the country, the first line being 870 meters long, highest point being 123 meters in the beginning. Being the only zipline in the world that passes under a bridge, the height under the bridge is 87-90 meters.
